Sunday Socials in April, May & June, 2017
Sunday Social, April 2nd: Experience Virtual Reality
Join us at this week's Social to experience the emerging technology of Virtual Reality, and its potential to facilitate transformation, self-growth, and self-expression.
Virtual Reality is a limitless medium. The paint is human experience and the canvas is our consciousness. It is a platform for sharing our inner self — our very humanity. We can deepen our empathy through literally stepping into another's shoes and inhabiting their experience.
VR has the potential to lead to the democratization of human experience, the same way the internet lead to the democratization of data. Whether it's traveling to a foreign land, exploring the surface of Mars, or diving deep to the ocean's floor, Virtual Reality will allow all access to a multitude of places and spaces both real and imagined.
Jeff Lohrius MA is a VR facilitator, guide, and artist at VR:AWE (Virtual Reality Art & Wellness Experiences). He offers the tools to create art and experience wellness applications in virtual reality. This process is life enhancing, healing, and inherently therapeutic, providing relaxation, anxiety, stress reduction, while promoting creativity and self expression.

Sunday Social, April 23rd: Exploring Past Lives
This week's Social will take us on a journey to the deep past--and then all the back to the present. Our guest is Ryan Swanson, a professional past-life reader who will introduce us to our own capacity to see into the past in a way that helps us live our current lives to their highest potential.
This is how Ryan explains past lives:
The soul never dies. Each one of us has lived through several incarnations in this world. Everyone we know today, every problem and gift we have, all started in the past. Knowing your past lives can free you from where life is holding you back. Its brings illumination, activation and, most of all, a chance for more happiness.
Ryan will share a little of her personal journey of developing her ability to see into the past. She will lead us in a guided meditation that can help open our own inner eyes and memories, and then she will do short readings for a few participants who are curious about their histories.
Details: Please arrive at Shine Restaurant's Gathering Place (2027 13th Street) between 11:00 am and 11:15 am so we can start promptly at 11:15 am. Socials are free of charge. $10 suggested donation. Sunday Social, April 30th: Ayurvedic Wisdom for Spring
This week's guest is Tauna Houghton, an Ayurvedic expert who will offer some wisdom on how to navigate the arrival of Spring and its effects on the body.
Spring is nature’s detox season, particularly for clearing out the cobwebs in our mind, lymphatic system and the lining of our gut. Tauna will share ancient wisdom from 1000s of years of Ayurvedic knowledge about how to use special spring foods, herbs, breathing techniques and lifestyle routines to feel lighter, stronger and more clear. This will also lay the foundation for a powerful summer and a healthier fall/winter ahead. Living in harmony with the seasons is about more than just eating seasonal foods (which is wonderful) – it is also about aligning our body, mind and heart with the gift of each season.
Tauna Houghton is a Certified Ayurvedic Pracitioner whose goal is to help people with their wellbeing to simplify, harmonize and energize their life with tools that can help reduce stress, balance weight, improve mood, generate more energy, crave healthier foods, increase immunity, calm the mind, and enjoy more vitality. She received certification in India as an Ayurveda Therapist and has studied, practiced and taught a multitude of holistic modalities since 1992.

Sunday Social, May 7th: Urban Vision Quest
This week's guest is Don Morse, a Vision Quest leader who will offer us a mini-experience of using nature (or in this case, Pearl St.,) as our mirror.
Vision Questing is a powerful practice in which individuals spend a certain amount of time (usually a few days) solo in nature, often with no food, no entertainment, and no contact with the world (though obviously various saftey precautions are taken.) Being alone and without the distractions of daily life offers a chance to witness our thoughts and emotions directly, and to quiet the mind so as to find clarity about purpose and direction in life. Facilitators like Don prepare Questers in small groups for the experience, and help them process and integrate afterwards.
The Social this week is invitation for a brief taster of a Vision Quest, a time for self reflection with a short walk in the outdoors to see what nature mirrors in the world. Because of timing and location, we'll use the Pearl St. Mall instead of a mountaintop - but we'll have the same opportunities to pay attention to our own inner world as reflected in what we see outside of us. When we finish, Don will guide us in a partner-sharing process to help us integrate our awakenings.
Don is a trained psychotherapist and Life Coach as well as a Vision Quest facilitator. He has been working with people to draw out their fullest potential for over 25 years.
Details: Please arrive at Shine Restaurant's Gathering Place (2027 13th Street) between 11:00 am and 11:15 am so we can start promptly at 11:15 am. Socials are free of charge. A $10 donation is appreciated. The event ends at 12:30 pm, then join in our community meal afterward and treat yourself to a delicious and nourishing organic Shine brunch.
Sunday Social, May 14th: Rooting in the Earth
Our guest this week is Sacred House's own Amy Jacobs! In alignment with Mother's Day, Amy will guide us in an exploration of the 1st, or Root Chakra, which serves as a connection to the Mother archetype, as well as to the Great Mama herself, the Earth.
The Root Chakra contains themes of security, sexual or life-force energy, vitality, nourishment, empowerment, and the divine feminine. When the Root Chakra is strong and healthy, we feel a deep sense of safety and personal power, which means we don't have to go on the external chase for those things that is the cause of so much dysfunction in our society. Moreover, our root is our connection to the Earth, and to the great goddess who resides there, offering love and wisdom in each moment.
We'll start with a little education about these various themes and the way they all weave together, and a group discussion on first chakra experiences and challenges in our lives. We'll eat brunch while we chat, and if we are feeling it, we may take a walk to a nearby park and practice some mind and body exercises that help to develop awareness of - and connection to - our roots.
Amy has studied and taught about energy, chakras, and the mind/body connection for the past ten years. Her work incorporates the Korean energy practice of Sundo, neuroscience, astrology, a bit of tantra, and many other influences.

Sunday Social, June 4th: How Much Joy Can You Stand?
Join us this week for a big blast of JOY with author and speaker McCartney Green!
McCartney challenges us all to ask: What would life be like for you if you woke up each day with a smile on your face, joy in your heart, tons of energy and raring to go?
McCartney's life journey has been one of humbling spiritual experiences and deep immersion into the power of love. She'll share with us her fascinating process of stepping into her personal power and learning to speak to the world about what her experiences have taught her. She now works with what she calls a "code" for strong spiritual alignment--in other words, for living from your own center.
McCartney is the author of 13 books, and a professional speaker and presenter in her hometown of Atlanta, GA. She is Sacred House's first out of town presenter! We hope you will join us to welcome her.
